Carrie E Willetts serves as Chief Administrative Officer of WVU Medicine and provides executive oversight for the WVU Innovation Corporation. Through the WVU Innovation Corporation, she is focused on leveraging the combined strengths of WVU Medicine, West Viginia University, industry partners, and entrepreneurs to accelerate biotechnology, digital health, and commercialization opportunities that improve health outcomes and drive economic growth.
With more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience, Willetts has built a reputation for guiding complex organizations through growth, integration and innovation. Her work has spanned health system strategy, business development, physician alignment, value-based care, hospital operations, and enterprise transformation.
At WVU Medicine, Willetts has led major system integrations, expanded patient access across urban and rural communities, and developed innovative models of care delivery. Prior to joining WVU Medicine, Willetts held senior executive leadership roles with WellSpan Health and Sentara Healthcare, where she led strategic growth, business development, hospital operations, physician enterprise initiatives, value-based care transformation, and quality improvement efforts.
Willetts earned a master’s degree in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from James Madison University. She completed executive studies in strategy from Northwestern University and human-centered design from University of Virginia. She serves on the Advisory Board for James Madison University’s School of Strategic Leadership Studies and has been recognized for her leadership, including being named a West Virginia Wonder Woman by WV Living Magazine.
